NEWSKING CLIPTACKER
A middleware software
called “ClipTracker” monitors the video server(s) for all air-ready clips and
displays them within NewsKing whenever a video command is activated. The
Journalist selects the desired news clip from that list. If the clip is not yet
edited, the Journalist can hand enter the anticipated name of the video. This
creates a “Clip Request” that indicates to the Editors the Video Name, Format,
Length wanted including the name of the Script and Show that this clip is
needed for.
THE NEWSKING CG COMMAND
The information displayed in the CG
Command is typed in by the Journalist.
SPEAKER NAME

This command calls
the designated Scene or Page Template on the Character Generator machine; fills
in the data; and saves it to a Page tracked by NewsKing. During the Newscast,
NewsKing will call this page up at the proper time – and always in the proper
order.
CG TEMPLATES
The CG Templates are
created by the Graphics Department under the direction and control of the News
Department. Once Created on the CG machine, a corresponding CG Command is
designed using the NewsKing DNO (Directors Notes) Utility. The identification
of the CG Template is contained within each graphic DNO (Locator, Name Super,
Sports Score, etc).
TEMPLATE NAME
This example shows a CG Template called “2Line” being used by NewsKing to
make an On-Air CG called “Name Super”.

NEWSKING IS SCRIPT-BASED AUTOMATION
The finished Script
contains all the information about the story – in the order it is to appear.
Essentially, the “Script” in a
NewsKing system is a container that holds all the elements required to produce
this story.
SHOW STACKING
The Producer begins stacking the scripts
into a Rundown for each show.
Reporters may write their stories inside
the show, or on their own “Work Desk”, and drag and drop the finished script
into the show when done.
As the Producer stacks the show, all the
production elements take their place in the order automatically.
PRELIMINARY TIMING
Using the “PRELIM”
Column, a Producer can pre-time the show based on Estimated Times for each
script when it is finished. Note that the RED
Flags in the Prelim Column indicate that the Estimated Time is being used for
the Hit Time projections – not the Actual Time.
When a Producer
accepts a Script, they click on the Actual Time Column to accept the real time
of the story, as calculated by NewsKing.
CHANGING THE SHOW
To change the Order,
A Producer Left clicks on the desired Item and drags and drops the Script (or
Scripts) to a new location; With a Right-Click a Producer can Delete or Drop a
Story; a New Script can be dropped or typed into the Rundown and within 3
seconds of Saving the Script all the Video and CG information is registered to
that Script – in the order of appearance within the story.
PRINTING THE SHOW
The Producer prints
the various versions of the Rundown
(Director, Producer, Anchor, CG, Camera, etc.). Then they print the
Directors version of the Scripts; and those needed by other production staff;
followed by the Anchors Scripts and any other desired reports.
- All
Printouts are customizable.
About 1 Hour prior
to show time ... the NewsKing NewsCast Automation is Activated.
IN THE CONTROL ROOM
The Producer checks
with the Director or Production Coordinator to make sure that:
1.
All other
production activities are completed and that the production equipment is now
ready to be dedicated to the upcoming newscast.
2.
NewsKing Device
Console is ready to go on-line and to take over control of the devices.
- It takes about 10 seconds for this verbal
communications between Producer and Director.
IN THE NEWSROOM
The Producer does a
keystroke from the Newscast Rundown called “Connect to Devices”. This
initializes our software to each production device (CG, Video Servers, Still
Store, Robotic Camera, etc.) and loads all the elements in order for each
Script; and in the order of the placement of each script in the Rundown.
- This process takes about 30
seconds for an hour show.
Once connected to the Devices,
NewsKing NewsCast Automation monitors every script for any changes, moves,
additions or deletions and applies that change to both the Script and the
connected device in about 3 seconds.

This illustrates NewsKing
Device Controller with 1 channel each of Video, CG and Still Store. Each
Panel represents 1 channel of 1 device.
Of course, it can handle
multiple channels of each device … and Multiple Newscasts.

the Automation Status.
The Auto-Load/Auto-Play

The Auto-Load/Manual Play

decide when to play the clip.
The Manual Load option allows the Operator to
decide when to load and play the next clip.
(The Auto Load/Manual Play is the
recommended option)
When

For Manual loading and playing of videos,

but it must be played manually.
Double-Clicking again will switch the color
to RED - indicating that NewsKing will continue
to track all videos automation mode … but that NewsKing will not Auto-Load or
Auto-Play anything. All operations are manual
The DCO Window:
